Rockin' Military Trend With a Splash of Yellow

Magazines, style blogs, trend forecasts and celebrities are all going gaga for military-inspired fashion. Major design house Prada has declared camo as their fashion focus this season, while affordable J. Crew has created colors such as “Monterey Pine” and “Olive Moss” to keep up with this militia-inspired movement.

At last night's VMAs, I noticed Rihanna's combat boots that she rocked during her opening performance with Eminem. They definitely gave her ballerina-like tutu skirt an edge and played up her fire-red hair.

In honor of this military trend, I picked out some of my favorite military-inspired pieces as well as some gems from my own collection so you can accomplish this "G. I. Jane" look.

Shopbop.com has a great selection of lace up booties for the more feminine military feel. I like these Patty High Heal Sneaker Booties for their versatility.

Another easy way to incorporate the military trend into your closet is by simply adding camo-print accessories, like a pair of these sassy Prada camo platform pumps or this adorable Tory Burch camo mini bag or a peacoat like this one by Burberry. This jacket has such an amazing sleek look. It’s double breasted with epaulettes, slit cuffs with four buttons and a military half belt at back. Perfect to keep you cozy and warm this winter!

B-Low The Belt’s Vintage Military Belt is a great staple to carry you through Fall and Winter. This canvas belt features studs and a brushed brass buckle to give it that vintage look. It’s great paired with jeans or wrapped around your feminine dresses and sweaters to give them an edge.

For those of you who want to add a splash of color to the camo palette, my personal favorite way to play it up is to accent with a pop of a yellow-tone, from mustard to citrine. I like how Burberry does this with a golden leather jacket over their military-inspired dress and vice-versa with this yellowish green dress under their military jacket.

If the bright splash of color is too much for you, black and gold accessories are perfect additions to the military look. The stud detailing accents with black and smoky stones in my Ava Necklace in Anise, which is featured in October's Essence Magazine, and my Linden Earrings in Black (which are on SALE this week only as one of my Daily Deal specials. Shop all Daily Deals.) are great accessories to pair with the green and brown army-inspired colors of the fall.

Which ever way you decide to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe this season is truly up to you, but a must none-the-less!
