Kendra’s Philanthropy Wednesdays: More Ways That You Can Fight For The Cure

In addition to shopping, there are numerous other ways in which you can make a difference in finding a cure for Breast Cancer. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I decided to also dedicate my Philanthropy Wednesday blog to this amazing cause and show you other ways that you can contribute!

One way you can give back AND get active is by participating in the Susan G. Komen
Race for the Cure, the largest 5K fitness walk/run in the world. Race for the Cure brings out more than one million participants each year in hundreds of races across the world. The race in Austin will be Sunday, November 7th. Go to the Komen for the Cure website to sign up and find all of this year's locations.

Another easy way that you can support breast cancer research is by participating in Yoplait’s Save Lids to Save Lives program. Each year during the months of September and October, you will find your favorite Yoplait yogurt flavors topped with pink lids. All you have to do is collect lids from each of the yogurts you and your family eats and mail them in. Each lid is worth 10 cents to the Komen Foundation, and that adds up fast!

Be sure to check out events that are going on in your community too! Here in Austin, there is the Eat, Drink & Think Pink fundraiser going on from October 1st to November 6th. To participate, all you have to do is purchase a pink flamingo for $1 at participating stores and restaurants around Austin such as Avant
Salon, Double Dave’s Pizzaworks, Massage Envy, and Texas Roadhouse. Not only will you be showing your support for breast cancer awareness with a funky pink flamingo, but all proceeds from the sales will also benefit the Austin Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

In addition, Taste of Southpark will be hosted on Saturday, November 6th from 5-7 p.m. at The Grove in Austin. At this fun Austin event, you can taste delicious samples from eateries in the Southpark Meadows area, and play games to win awesome prizes such as gift cards to shops and boutiques around Austin. Wristbands for this event are $5 and 50% of all proceeds will also be donated to the Austin Affiliate of Susan G. Koman for the Cure.

There are tons of ways that you can pay tribute to the lives lost, celebrate the survivors, and ultimately help win in the battle against breast cancer. I encourage you to find your own way to contribute to finding a cure for this disease that has touched so many women and their families across the world.
